So let's kick off the F1 2021 season thread with the news that Hamilton wants a 2 year deal, but wants a veto in place for his team mate.
Very disappointed if this is true - I thought Hamilton always stated that he didn't care who his team mate was!

haha - true enough!
I'm holding out that with so much being carried over, Red Bull might just be able to mount at least half a challenge!

the red bull car is so far off, the only mercedes they can beat is bottas' one. let's just hope the battle for 2nd in the constructor championship will be interesting, between red bull mclaren renault aston and hopefully ferrari, might be an interesting season.

i would say that sprint race could work as non championship races where the teams give the cars to f2/reserve drivers, could be an interesting for a rookie to show off.

I can't stand the thought of any nonsense like sprint races deciding grid etc.
Qualifying sets the grid for the Grand Prix.
Also, would the winner of the Sprint race have won a GP? Would it be added to race statistics?
It's the answer to a question that nobody was asking.

The pre- Season test is a waste right now. Dust everywhere. They should use Monstertrucks instead of F1 cars^^

That first day was crazy!
Red Bull look strong - anyone expecting major sandbagging from Mercedes? lol

anyone that thinks mercedes is going to struggle this season is a fool. the only thing that is goning to change at best is who is going to get 2nd place in the standings. HAM VER BOT this season. the fight for 3rd in the constructor is going to be interesting with so many contender, without mercedes this could have been more wild than 2012.

I think Mercedes will be on par with Red Bull at the start of the season, at least.

RedBull closed the gap to the end of the season. Like they did in every previous season for most of the time. The guys are a progress machine. But Mercedes is every year so much ahead, that they can cruise to the victory. Thinking it will be similar this season. Why? Because its the same for what... 6 Years?

I think the main difference this year over other years is that the cars are effectively the same. They are "B" chassis - which I think helps Red Bull.

Ferrari new engine may help claw them back up the order a little - but I can't see them making huge leaps.

What I'm hoping for - Mercedes really are struggling and are no longer the outright fastest team while Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, Alpine and Aston Martin have all caught up with Mercedes and we get something like early 2012.
What will probably happen - Mercedes 1-2 in the first race and their still the fastest. Red Bull and all the other teams have closed the gap to Mercedes but not enough yet to properly challenge them.
