What a race we saw last night. The Mercedes reign of terror is over, at least partially, and the hero in the eyes of many prevailed. A hero who is a total prick on track, but he doesn't drive a silver German car so all is forgiven I guess. But do the ends justify the means?
The post-script will continue for some time. Mercedes are set to argue until the cows come home that giving a race every chance to end under green flag conditions isn't the correct procedure, and they may have a point, but what good will it really do them? The only precedent for screwy stewarding in motorsport is to void the result entirely, in which case nothing changes in the WDC or WCC. I believe the best they can hope for is monetary compensation and Masi being shown the door.
What does this mean for F1 though? Was the race great for all the wrong reasons, or should be just embrace chaos and allow ourselves to be sports entertained? Either way, 2022's going to have a hard time topping this season, even with the new cars designed to make passing and pack racing better.

In all seriousness, Masi, or actually the whole Stewards, should not be eligble to continue for 2022. Last, or well, "current" season was a pure shit-show of who gets away with murder and who recieves the less penalties for illegal actions in and out track.
Like 'Magic' Alonso said, the whole Stewards is biased towards some drivers, letting 'em get away with "some infrictions" you wouldn't get away so easily (as cutting a corner to gain a lasting advantage, even though you were """forced""" off track, like in Sochi).

It's bizarre how Lewis fan boys attack Max in this way. Shame that they cannot respect the job he has done this year. He is a deserving champion & this season was one of the most incredible title fights of all time. Give me this season over seasons of Merc/Red Bull domination that we have had in the past.

Absolutely. Stewarding has been all over the place, but anyone who suggests that it hasn't been all over the place for everyone, is just delusional. It's been a shit show - but for everyone involved.

Not sure how what I said makes me a "Lewis fanboy" because I wanted Max to win the title. But I can't deny that he got away with some ridiculous moves this season, especially the complete failure to turn into the corner at Brazil. Then again, he also got penalized for stuff he shouldn't have, namely Monza (side by side racing incident) and Saudi (end to end collision, burden is on the trailing car to avoid it).
You also didn't bold the part where I subtly sledged Mercedes for arguing against a decision to go racing when racing is the entire point of the event.

The fact you called Verstappen a "total prick". I even put it in bold for you.
Hope this helps.

Again, it cannot be denied that Max Verstappen drives in a way that would get you shitcanned by a lot of sim racing leagues.
But off the track, he's as nice and graceful a person as anybody, and I don't even blame him for his faux pas at the podium ceremony in Saudi. He was clearly frustrated at the result and getting booed by the crowd, so why would he feel like celebrating?

Both Hamilton and Verstappen were deserving champions, and each had a fantastic season, but it's a shame the title was decided in such a controversial manner. I agree that the stewarding in 2021 was appalling.

Have we really got to the point where people are comparing real racing situations to computer games. Christ.

Have we really got to the point where people are comparing real racing situations to computer games. Christ. Because most people are too broke to go real racing but have experience in the games. We've reached a level of realism these days that allows a like for like comparison to be made between the sim and real world. In any case, the driving standard should logically be even higher in real life, because there's a lot of valuable cars on the line especially in F1. Instead last season was generally more incident prone than it's E-Sports counterpart.

You've clearly never been in a racing car.

You've clearly never been in a racing car. Of course. Too expensive for me. There's no need for you to be a twat about it.

Stop comparing incidents in proper F1 to the e-sports variant then.

You're ridiculing me over an off hand remark I made over Verstappen's driving, something that a lot of people experienced in all forms of racing, virtual or real, have criticized throughout his career. Get out of here with your toxicity and gatekeeping of the right to have opinions.

You are free to have those opinions - just as I am free to challenge and ridicule them. Maybe next time, try not to say something ridiculous - then you won't have to worry about your opinions being ridiculed.

You are free to have those opinions - just as I am free to challenge and ridicule them. And by doing so you're being toxic so I now have the right to report and block you.
The opinions I've expressed are fairly logical and popular amongst the modern motorsport community. You're out of line claiming they're "ridiculous".

The only one being toxic here is you. Swearing at other members because they don't agree with you. Now stop trolling and getting upset because someone doesn't agree with you that driving an F1 car is just like playing F1 2021.

It's been over four weeks since the title decider, and I really don't see the point in arguing about it any further. Time for everyone to step back and cool off.
Thread locked.
