Recently tried to "play" a bit with basic game, gpw editor does most of stuff, but my question for experienced moders is which program is used for helms, speach and pictures ? Pics in all mods are almost perfect, far beyond anything i can make using paint and photoshop....

Any image editor should work (e.g. Paint.NET). Most/all TGA files should be saved in 16-bit with no compression.
The transparency colour that the game uses is RGB: 0, 255, 0.
PPM files (for car liveries) may need a special plugin to ensure the colours/bits are saved in the right order.
