I love management sims and have played F1 manager professional on and off for many years but kept seeing people talk about this game and GPM2. I finally found the link for I believe was the remastered version on this website and managed to get it working a week or so ago.
I've got to say it's been really interesting. Learning the dynamics of the game and how to get things done initially without any instructions is quite difficult, I'm still learning various things and I'm just starting my 5th season with Tyrell. I like a challenge and didn't want to start easy 😂. Needless to say I was fairly clueless and had to look up a video on YouTube and saw zero with his Minardi save and took his advice on basically not spending money and getting spare parts and then a bit of learning about partner and works deals etc. it's so different from anything I've played before on getting sponsors and deals for parts. Once you get your head around it, it does make sense and is frustrating and rewarding at the same time especially when the sponsors suddenly get snapped up by another team. All part of the overall fun of it though. Another thing I really like is that things like engine manufacturers can come and go. Although my experience of this was cut short because the game crashed and I hadn't saved it since the last few races of the previous season. Toyota had come in and I had started negotiating to become partner and when I re did those races and progressed through to the next season again Toyota hadn't come in that time.
That actually leads me onto my first question. Ferrari had no one with them in season 2. So I thought they would be a good target to make a deal with for my 3rd season. Admittedly I'm a lower team so I didn't expect a works offering but they did offer the chance of a partnership but the negotiation seemed to take an age and in the end had to go for a customer deal with them.
So Ferrari being a big brand (high cash) is it harder to negotiate each square on the progress chart than say mugen honda or do they just have more squares to get to where you need like sponsors?
Now to development. I'm still learning big time on this. Last season I was able to develop quite nicely as I had started next season's car early and got away with it on the rules. I had made my suspension 5/5 brakes were 4/5 but to be honest it didn't really feel like we were making any progress up the grid despite some really good progress in these areas. We even stole driver aids from others and implemented them 3 times. Still seemed to be finishing in the same sort of position which I found odd. I know the others are developing but we developed a lot of stuff and didn't move forward at all. So are these improvements all fairly negligible in real time speed? Should I worry more about developing the chassis stages for diffuser or wings etc?.
In my current state I don't think I'd be able to implement more than 2 updates in one season by the time it's gone through all four stages. I've done one update and again that didn't seem to make a lot of difference which was a front wing for slow corners. Made about 6% difference on the handling rating from 38 to 44 if I remember correctly.
Lastly could someone list what each factory actually does i.e what does the supercomputer effect? That's what I'm currently building for next year as I took my factory to level 2 for this season. I was thinking about doing the workshop but have no idea what that would help achieve as I don't have the info. Supercomputer I believe helps speed along one of the design processes like CAD I'm guessing. I've done the first 2 on the list. Also is it just speed it helps with or does it help quality of R&D on chassis?
Sorry for the long post. Any help is greatly appreciated. I could have gone on longer but thought I better not 🥱
