Hi everyone. I'm new here and new to gpw and would like to get a bit of quick technical advice... I have installed gpw using a download from old-games on windows 10 using daemon tools, dxwnd etc etc and thats all great. I was having a issue with the in race screen being completely screwed up but I resolved by adjusting the settings in dxwnd as follows; No HAL Device = tick --> means the cars appear in the camera view by default set no ALPHACHANNEL = tick --> removes all the crazyness from the screen with colours etc all over the shop At this stage I was feeling pretty good about life but when you get to the end of a session (or skip to the end of a session) I get a Microsoft Visual C++ debug assertion fail error and the game crashes. It's clearly related to the 'No HAL Device' setting as it doesn't happen when this is unticked but at the same time if you untick it no cars appear on track! Has anyone else experienced this issue and resolved it because I have hit the limit of my knowledge to try and fix it. Any help would be super appreciated.

You dont need to use the complicated DXwind anymore. Just install the game, and copy one of the mods over it. or if you just want to play original 1998 season, just install the game and then patch it with the GPWedit tool from Veedub, you will find the tool here. DXwind is not necessary anymore on modern Win10 Pc. If you still got problems or questions, please reply.

Thanks for the advice . I have reinstalled the game from scratch, set windows to run in 16bit colour mode but now I'm getting the classic (seems pretty common anyway) '%s%Sample app did not properly cleanup objects' error. I tried using GPWEdit to remove this error but it falls over when I try to export. Edit: I managed to resolve by copying the entire Grand Prix World folder that had been uploaded by another user earlier in the thread including the modified .exe file from Veedub. Managed to import the .exe in GPWEditor as well and all the rule / car handling / development curve changes etc were already implemented so I think I'm all good. Think I might wait a bit before trying a different mod Edit2: Functionality wise everything is working ok but I have found that the in race engine seems to slow right down after around 15 laps or so. It's obviously not a processing power related issue given the age of the game (I think I was using 12% of CPU power to run it). I tried changing some of the graphics settings and (as expected) it made no difference. Anyone else had similar issues?

If you have performance issues in the Race, download the Ddraw fix from my server: 62.75.211.27/gpw/ddraw.zipThe performance issue will not be full solved, but well playable. Another tip: Open another time screen, like fastest laps. If I open the screen "Circuit conditions", I still get some framedrops, too. But the Ddraw fix will help you alot. And do not open GPW in 16bit mod! This can bring new problems. If using Veedubs GPWedit, do not use compatiblity mod or 16 bit anymore.

Just in the main GPW folder or another sub folder?

I downloaded and extracted those two ddraw-files into right folder, and suddenly the game won't start anymore. When i try to launch gpw, only black screen pop up. Any ideas how to solve this problem? I use original game which i updated with editor.
