It looks like you didn't use the pallete before saving your bmp file

Hi guys, necroing this thread as I have the same issue.
I'm messing around with the Starfire Editor by trying to swap around some of the side cars: eg. exporting the Williams 2018, and importing it into the 2019 Mod in place of Panthera. Logically I figured that a straight swap should work without needing to mess around with Pallettes, but I also get the blank car issue.
I don't have Photoshop (or equivalent) or have any understanding of Pallettes - does this mean I basically can't do anything image related?

For both-yes, Photoshop (at least in my experience) may be requiered. Though, as it is "may be", you can actually use any other photo-editor (even the good old Paint), as long you can "crop" and/or edit the image you want to use for replacing-keeping the green background with it (RGB: 0, 127, 0), and use the IrfanView program to import the pallete to make it "usable". In other words, all you need to do is: 1) Find the side-view photo you wanna use. 2) Edit, either using an already-ingame asset or creating a new one; don't forget the green background (RGB: 0, 127, 0) and save it as .bmp, otherwise it won't work/will be white. 3) Using the IrfanView, import, the "pallete" I uploaded, like this- 4) Once you finished importing, save and replace the file, and it should be ready to be used. Any other issues, please write them here and mention/quote this message, I'll try to answer ASAP. Pallete link.

Starfire Editor exports everything as 24-bit BMP, so even if it looks exactly the same you need you still need to reapply the GPM2 palette and save the BMP before importing it back to the game. For smaller pictures and straight up "swapping" graphics IrfanView is enough, as shown by Lain. For more advanced tasks you'd need a proper image editor which can apply dithering to mask the limitations of the 256-colour palette. If you want to try that out, you could use GIMP ( palette and instructions here).

Cheers for the responses, both! I've had a go purely using Paint and Irfanview - this is the outcome: Thanks again, I'll keep playing around with this. My first baby steps to modding

Hey masukarealm, it's looking good so far I made a video a while ago explaining how to mod GPM2. It doesn't cover everything, but it addresses the majority of what you need to know. I think it helps people see how it's done visually because describing how to use software you're not familiar with can be difficult. If you go to 12:09 on the video it shows you how to do the side view pictures. What it goes over and where to find it in the video, 0:08 Everything you need to get started what to download and programs to use 1:27 Folder set up 2:16 Collect driver and staff data & information 3:17 Where to find data and information 3:25 Where to find pictures 3:51 Image sizes 4:54 Putting an image into the game 6:20 Menu templates 7:42 Starfire Editor introduction 9:25 Driver's picture's 10:12 Saving and exporting using the Starfire editor 10:50 Team and engine logo pictures 11:19 Car top-down views pictures 12:09 Car side views pictures 12:45 Matchbox views pictures 13:40 Putting data and information into the game 14:15 How to tell which driver is who for the news 14:37 Editing the engines 15:11 Engine number 3 name glitch 15:21 Edit the winning points, calendar, and car numbers 15:58 Tips to know before starting how to tell which team is who 16:32 Drivers who have 16/16 contracts 16:44 What to do when your mod is finished

Thanks Sean! Visualisation does indeed help. Quite pleased I was able to edit without the need for a proper photo editor too. My goal currently is to do an updated version an already completed mod like 2019 and use that as a base for learning for things like Hex Editing.
